Thought I'd try and be a more productive night owl, so I'm catching up on some blog homework from the ever lovely @rambo @missy and @lyxzen <3
Questions like this are always a tough one for me, I kinda feel like my answers depend on the day. I tend to obsess over artists/musicians/songs/images intensely for a few weeks until I wear it out, then move onto the next. I guess my truly favourite people and things are the ones that reoccur in my "rotations". The things that I can go back to and that will still resonate even after extended listening and viewing. I figured the best I could do is list the artists that have stuck in the back of my head the most, who's art influences me whenever I attempt to pick up a pencil or paint brush.
In no particular order...
This guy does dark and creepy like no other, and I find myself drooling at the texture and ornate detail any time I look at his work. If I was going to have someone illustrate my nightmares, it would most likely be Michael Hussar.
San Fran graffiti writer/tattooer and Rebel8 illustrator. I just find all of his work so visually striking, I always loved how tough and foxy all the women he draws are (shocker, right...). When I discovered him in my teenage years his handstyles made me drool. I wanted nothing more than to be able to wield a marker with as much precision as this dude. Still can't. But I do own a decent stack of his t-shirts at this point... so close enough right?
I only discovered Ramon Maiden a year or so ago through Instagram, but he's definitely one of my favourite visual artists around. I bought a couple prints from his Etsy around Xmas time and they've become some of my favourite possessions. To be honest, I would probably plaster a whole wall with his pieces if given the opportunity.... you may notice a pattern starting to form here with the styles of art I'm drawn to most...
Kevin's paintings inspired the art for both of my thigh pieces, everything he creates is just gorgeous and delicious and velvety and DARK. I'm also fairly certain that I discovered one of my favourite babes @poetica through him posting their collaborations on Instagram.... If I could only use two words to describe his work they would be 'fragile' and 'filth' (and I mean those in a completely positive way).
Everything this lady paints is so dreamy and fantastical, and I love her use of the wood grain she paints on. I'm pretty sure all the girls she paints are stoned too... but that could just be me.
'Forever Still'
'Charlotte'
'I Want To Play'
I'm gonna stop here before my post gets obnoxiously long (too late...)
Recommend me some artists you guys think I should check out! :)
