a nice write up on my weekender from the SF Chronicle:
...The breeze dropped. Over at the Parkside Cafe in lower Potrero, where the Budget Rock Showcase was on its final night, lanterns were strung around the back patio and a guy was setting up for the next band. Women in vintage dresses and low-top Converse All-Stars talked to men in black jeans, wallet chains and band T-shirts; a black-and-white film of '50s female wrestlers played on one wall.
INSIDE, THE PHANTOM Surfers, in white dinner jackets and black eye masks, ripped through a cover of "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker." A guy in a Giants jersey nudged me in the back: "Make sure you write down that they kick ass," he screamed. He had to repeat this three times before I had any idea what he was saying.
The air grew sweltering; those in the front of the crowd danced madly to a surf-punk version of the Hokey Pokey as the guitarist played his instrument behind his head.
Outside, a few people drifted restlessly to their cars. It was nearly midnight, and San Francisco had barely cooled off.
---------
the blue angels keep buzzing my house but the clouds are so slow I can't see them. the last pass shook the windows and made the dog bark.
