I'd look into taking a course while working part time where there is carpentry. Most trades take apprentices, and you can get a full time job when you are done. Just see if they can point you in the right direction to get your credits, and if they can teach you as well.

I was enrolled in one last year but it got cancelled due to lack of enrollment so if I want to take a course I have to move cities. It's a bit of a pain.

It's a direct Eowyn quote from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King extended edition. I've always loved the imagery of it. It's a reworking of Faramir's thoughts in the books. I just love it.
