6/16: When's the moment you officially knew you had become an "adult"?
I don't remember specifically when it happened. It wasn't like I woke up one morning and BAM! Adult! Like most life transitions, it's a gradual process, and it's terrifying.
So, in no particular order, here are some of the moments that helped me realize it had happened:
1. I said the "fuck" word in front of my ultra-conservative mother without fearing the consequences.
2. Paying my own insurance, rent, taxes, etc. Adulting sucks.
3. Working and going to school with people much younger than I am.
4. I actually said "when I was your age" once.
5. At 36, I realized I could legally date someone half my age.
6. If I had had a child when I was legally an adult, my child would not only be an adult, but would be old enough to drink.
7. Watching movies/TV shows with the cliche Teens/Kids vs. Adults, I find myself taking the adults' side.
8. Going back to school and feeling absolutely zero social pressure, because who the fuck are these kids to me?
9. I also had professors younger than I am.
Well now I'm just getting depressed.
