A poem for the holidays:

Stars upon a chain, strands of pearls
the silver tinkle of ornaments as they touch
and delicate tinsel strewn over fragrant branches
popcorn and cranberries in a halo of gold and red
windowpane moans against wind and storm and snow
powdery mist swirling in a tiny hurricane
gathering boughs and chopping into sappy tree trunks
crunching through icy forest paths
warmth of home and hearth,
be still my beating heart
and the lights, oh the lights
the beauty embracing every sense
crackling fire, crackling paper
dizzying towers of chocolate and powdered sugar confections
the travel, the trip, the trek
the homecoming
