Just returned home from an afternoon spent with Brian on Hollywood Blvd. (for as brief a time as possible), and at The Grove and Farmer's Market. I found the perfect top hat at Hollywood Toy & Costume for the Death shoot, and I even grabbed a black rose just in case we might need a simple "goth" prop. After that, we were pretty much out of there, since I cannot stand the smell of the boulevard.
The Grove is a great place, though, and I was happy to have waited for my first visit, not only to share it with Brian, but because it's the holidays and they have it all decked out with bright red poinsettias, garlands and evergreen boughs everywhere. It's lovely there. It didn't feel like we were in Hollywood, and that may have been the best part of all.
We ventured in and out of different stores, surveyed the bodegas, and strolled along the street alongside the cable car, until I happened upon a woman who was trying on a blood red crystal cross. I spied her while she was fitting the clasp at her neck, hoping she wouldn't like it, but alas, she bought the thing, and left me scouring for another one just like it.
I didn't find another cross identical to the one that got away, but I did leave the cart with an equally stunning piece, also in that same gorgeous crimson color, and I'm looking forward to wearing it to the Christmas Party that Dana invited me to along with the new black angora sweater I bought, and my favorite pair of tuxedo pants.
After some more window shopping and a really nice rest at the fountain, we wandered into the Farmer's Market area in search of dinner. I decided on my favorite fish and chips place, and Brian set his mind on some authentic N'awlins jambalaya. Our meals, accompanied by some great lemonade and a limeade, were really enjoyable, which is typical of the food there. It's always been consistently fresh and good. I absolutely love Farmer's Market. Especially on days like today when there were virtually no crowds and perfect weather.
Instead of our usual stock of Nag Champa, we snatched up a great deal on some other yummy incense (he chose Rain fragrance, and I liked the Pumpkin Pie) for a more festive mood to scent the house, and we returned to a freshly cleaned apartment (YAY for maid service!) and 4 happy kitties. It was a really nice day.
I'm not spending anymore time than this on the computer tonight because, although my knee has greatly improved, I've somehow thrown out my back. Ben Gay (no jokes please) is adding some relief, but I'm going to curl up with a book and let the Tylenol 3 I just took work it's magic on my aches and pains. Ahh, the joys of getting OLD.
