It's been so foggy and chilly here. Halloween is coming, and Autumn is definitely showing in so many ways. Strange timing for a girl like me to be tiring of wearing so much black. Perhaps it's just a phase, somewhat like a 24-hour bug that will pass, but for now, I'm sick of black. This season has filled me with the desire to buy a pile of inexpensive, non-black sweaters and soft, faded jeans, and one good pair of lace up, brown leather boots to wear with everything. Every day. And socks. Not just any socks. Knee high socks in all those fun stripes and patterns and colors that you find at the Goth Mall or at Target.
I feel like shaking out all of my faux fur vintage coats and hanging them out to freshen up in the crisp air, then lightly spraying them in my perfume to prepare them for wear. I want to hang a wet umbrella on the doorknob to dry, and complain that the rain has flattened my hair and made my mascara run. I want to hear the thunder crack across the sky loudly enough to make the cats shudder from their naps and dart under the bed. Oh, and the lightning. That beautiful ice-blue flash that illuminates the walls of the room for a brilliant second or two, and how, in those seconds you can almost see a ghostly face in the mirror above the mantle. If only that rain would come.
Still, this is a gorgeous time of year. It's too cold now to leave all of the windows open in the house while we sleep at night. I'm craving fireplaces and hot Chai, and pumpkin pie to snack on, and oatmeal for breakfast, and warm nights on the old sofa spent staring out the window into the darkness that comes so soon after getting home from work. Even the leaves that usually wave at me through the panes when a warm breeze tosses them around look as though they're shivering now instead. I even find myself opening the moonroof while I drive just so that I can turn the heater on and still smell the scent of almost rain in the air.
My Mom praised me recently for keeping a "life journal" as she called it. I'm hoping that this mood will inspire me to create more and write more. Not necessarily here, but to actually get back to work on my book, and to finally come up with something worthy of making into a website. We'll see...
