The inevitable anticlimax: about 20 folks turned out, not bad for word-of-mouth promotion of an ill-defined Wednesday night artsy 'event', and everybody seemed to actually enjoy themselves. I actually liked how it turned out myself, and besides, that gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach is gone.

Basically. it was a live monologue that we taped in front a miraculously sympathetic audience for later...

Tonight. All set. I think.

Of course, everything else chose tonight to happen as well, as evidenced by my answering machine going crazy for about half an hourthis morning.

All is well, though. Already seeing this particular moutain return to molehill size.

Upside: Got the tech end of monologue all set and almost ready to let it rip for Wednesday night, Leigh came and hung for about 3 hrs with me at work yesterday, XGS called early Saturday for me to do her first photoset (!!), DS dropped off an obscure string-band ragtime video at work, ran into the ineluctable R downtown at the public access terminals,...

I went with some fellow students to a trivia night at an English pub downtown.

Then they elected to go to a strip club. Afterwards, at around 3AM, some of us went to eat.

All in all it seems like a horrible theme for a B movie.

12 days until a 90-min monologue gig, and I'm still writing. Arrgh.

The wake earlier tonight was pretty amazing: the family came through with a lot of grace and wit even under the painful circumstances. Even though/maybe because I've spent so much of my life living near the town I grew up in, I've been much less social with the folks from my hometown than either my brother or sister, though he lives down in Virginia and she lived across the state for quite a few years. Some of it has to do with age difference, perhaps, my siblings and their friends from home being quite a bit older than me. My friends of my own age growing up always seemed to be the ones who couldn't wait to get out and go to the city. Still, I consider many of these people family, and the great remarkable thing is that even though I don't mix socially over there much, most of them treat me as family when I see them. For which I'm pretty grateful.

Good To Be Alive Dept.: The day started yesterday wking up with a friend, albeit one whose ex-but-doesn't-quite-get-it-yet boyfriend went looking for me and her by pounding on doors in my unit at 2am. as I found out later in the day. Ark.

Funny I've got two other neglected blogs and a mailing list to maintain as well as film series schedules to email out, and I somehow prefer to drop my load in here where presumably nobody's reading. Of course, I haven't done much posting to groups, hence no adds to friend list, hence the gentle wash of static in the background. Nice of Isobel to drop by, though.

Me: R-eeeee-cola....

A. Still out of town, due back tomorrow afternoon. Hope she takes care of the hapless ex-b who came knocking the other night.
S. Called Friday night to wind me up with a blow-by-blow of getting it on with her new girle. I don't know if or how the fuck that evolves our affectionate-ex relationship but I am not complaining.
PL came in Saturday with her affectionate-ex to say hey, but never made it back, ah well, she doesn't seem to mind me calling her at home.
R. came down to work just to apologize about last night, which was both a really nice thing to do and makes me wonder if I'm as high-maintainance as she sometimes says I am. Something about reading back the last sentence makes me figure I probably am, at least by her lights. In my defense, I did mention when we made plans that waiting for phone calls that don't come gets me irritable, and like a schmo I hung around the phone long enugh to derail my backup plans for the evening. My anger-on finally quit about two hours before she surprised me at work. She hung out long enough to over lap the arrival of...
N., who makes her second appearance in two weeks in the batter's box, Damn, a Kiwi-accented marine biologist with serious academic cred (after the second flirt session I don't figure googling for stalkerish behavior, especially when we made a point of remembering each other's names -- god, that looks creepy reading it back -- ), so don't blame me for adding her to the possibles list, I'm just typing here for fuck's sake.
L. Followed up on fence-mending phone call from yesterday, curioiusly made herself scarce when AB stopped in with her brother in tow after getting back from India, hung and laughed for a while, made a date with me for Wednesday night, might come tomorrow for the movie, "The Butcher Boy" for St Pat's Day if she doesn't have to work, and
C. will be bringing the green milk to the bar so we can have it with the complimentary bowl of Lucky Charms up stairs before the movie.

I do still have a kid-like fascination with making lists, apparently.
