I've been going out to eat so often that I decided I felt like cooking for myself. So I tried making my recipe for pizza. It's in the oven right now, but I'm not overly optimistic about its prospects - the damned dough didn't rise like it normally does. So I'm anticipating a doughy, flat, not-cooked-through pizza. Which sucks, because i can actually make it pretty well, when it works, and I was sort of looking forward to some decent food for a change. I guess I made enough sauce to put it on something else tomorrow though. Such is life.

I'm finished with newswire stuff at an uncommonly early hour tonight, mostly because I've actually gotten a few members submissions today. Which made me oh so happy, it's fun to mix it up and actually edit stories instead of writing them all. Sean hasn't said anything about my (now previous?) coeditor, but I'm pretty sure he got the boot, since Sean has been helping out directly, which is also cool. And he's given us the go-ahead to editorialize, which I have been. My feeling is - I could just like to the article and say "What do you think about that?" But then I wouldn't get to call myself a "wonk." And seriously, who doesn't want to be called that? I'd like to get on Larry King and be the "liberal wonk from the progressive website suicidegirls.com, an in-your-face example of everything conservatives hate about modern culture" and get pissed off halfway through the discussion and end up picking up my chair and breaking it over the head of some crusty old white guy in a bowtie advocating supply-side economics. Whoa, got a little carried away there. I'm in kind of a goofy mood.

Oh, and to tie up another loose end that's been dangling, Hati suggested a reason why random people want to beat me up that sounds about right to me - I look like a smartass. It's not really intentional (even though I am one,) it just happens. I don't really consider it to be a bad thing either (I don't think it was meant as an insult) because in fact, I sort of enjoy being a smartass. It gives me something to do in lab meetings, like today when I can sit in the back and make rude comments about whoever is presenting something (including my boss) and everyone just laughs it off because they've come to expect it. So my feeling on this situation is: if having random bozos occasionally threaten me at bars is the price for getting to be a wiseass all the time, I'll gladly accept it.

And yeah, as for yesterday's entry, you're all probably right, a show about scientists (outside of Nova, which I love) probably isn't the best idea. We'll have to leave it to the lawyers, cops and athletes for the time being...
