Sunday afternoon, waking up at 1:30 and deciding to skip the gym. I'll leave it until tomorrow. I had my customary Sunday bacon/egg/cheese sandwich, and had the good fortune to walk by a brand-new Hummer H2 on the way to the store and spit on it. That always makes me feel a lot better.

Camille Paglia claims that blogs are the worst thing to happen to literature since the serial novel. She thinks that we all need editors, and only someone with a high and mighty genius like herself should have the right to infringe her meaningless scribblings on the rest of the world. Well, I say "Fuck her." Not literally. Maybe I do need an editor, but until Tom Delay passes a constitutional amendment forcing me to get one, he'll have to deal with me saying what I want.

I had a nice IM conversation with my thesis advisor this afternoon. I'm writing an NIH grant proposal, exciting titled "The Role of CRD-Neuregulin in the Cerebellum." It's due Friday. Yay. I was specifically looking for advice from her on several proposed experiments, and instead was subjected to a multiple-page treatise on how behavioral experimentalists don't understand the nature of statistical analysis, and how we should all use non-parametric analyses before applying repeat-measure ANOVAs to determine statistical significance. I love Sundays.

For some reason I've determine that by far my most productive time to write is from midnight until 4AM, with (often bad) techno music playing loudly. I don't know why, but this is highly consistent - I can wake up at 8AM and sit in front of my computer the entire day without typing a single word, then midnight comes and all at once I'm a literary juggernaut. I suppose it's useful that I've at least learned this about myself, but it's not helpful when I have to interact with the rest of the world, since I then sleep until 2pm and repeat the next day. I can't wait to write my doctoral thesis.

Until tomorrow...

oh, i know we'll see him again.
he is the boyfriend's beer brewing buddy. he is an active participant in ubergeeknight. he will be watching our house while we are gone.

but still, i won't be able to phone next door on a wednesday, and say "heya, i've got a fresh pot of coffee, and leftover dinner. get over here." anymore.

it probably came across more melodramatic than it is.

[[edited to say "than it is" rather than "than it sounds"]]
