Come on baby, I dare you to break my heart...
Sorry, just got done watching Basquiat. It's a great fucking movie.
So, I'm going to try out for the button making contest on this site. I have several pieces that could work, and I have made my own buttons, so I know watercolors reproduce well in button form. Worth a shot, but they probably are too "painterly" and not "graphic" enough to suit the tastes of the viewers. Another fine artist looses out to commercial art.... Oh well, wish me luck.... I'd like to win the yearly subscription
I'm sending out a packet of submission goodies to a gallery in Chicago. It's right next to one that I had a rejection from, the one I was bitching a few weeks ago about them telling me my slides weren't good. So, on that that I wrote a nice little note to them. It goes:
To whom it may concern, It has been brought to my attention that my slides are not up to professional standards. However, as an artist on the cutting edge of artistic expression it is impossible for me to pay the exorbitant fees charged by so-called professionals. Perhaps if such a well known, cutting edge gallery such as _____ can look past the quality of the slides and at the quality of the work itself I could afford such excessive fees. The point I am trying to make is that if you want to represnt the "cutting edge" artist you have to realize that those of us on the cutting edge are often starving.
Sincerely, Krys.....
My watercolor instructor would be proud, and you wonder why I get rejection notices?
The "I dare you to take me on as an artist" approach is only something I have tried one other time, and I am still awaiting the results of that particular missive. In that case, it's a local gallery and I have seen that they are adverticing for artists who deal with social commentary....
I'm a working feminist artist, I don't come any more fucking social.
My boyfriend suggested maybe they are trying to find people worthy of showing with me.... I wonder if he's right?
But, yeah, we'll see if the Chicago gallery responds to the slap in the face/sucking up approach... God I feel like such a heel... I hate kissing up to be taken seriously.
makes me sad...
I had a woman call and harass me yesterday, insisting she saw my work in a printmaking exhibition I have never even submitted work to. I tried to sell her one of my prints... She wasn't going for it and insisted that she got my name from the wall under the piece she liked.... Hmmmm.... I did sell a few of my prints this past year, I wonder if someone altered one of mine or put it out as their own.... but where the hell did she get my number from? Tis' a mystery.
New pics in the new folder. Enjoy!
