I just found out there is a name for it...
Hypnagogic Hallucinations
This has happened to me for as long as I can remember & I just thought I was slowly going bonkers (which I still may be). It usually happens every night, at least once.
What happens is, I am almost asleep & all of a sudden I hear something, like a baby crying or a person screaming bloody murder or a loud crash or people talking quietly from what sounds like right outside my bedroom door. I spring up & in a complete panic run out of the room to see what is going on. Sometimes I am awake, almost ready to fall asleep, with my eyes open just starring at the ceiling & relaxing & it happens.
Sometimes I see & hear stuff upon waking up too. Mostly I see things, like that eveything in my room is rearranged or that I am in a different room or that my bed is on the ceiling & I am upsidedown.
All I know is that it is good to have a roommate that stays up late at night when these things happen. Then I can jump out the door in a panic & say "What was that?!!!" & when he says "I didn't hear anything." I can relax, instead of pacing around for 10 minutes & wondering if THIS time it was ACTUALLY real. He is like my own personal security dude.
