Saturday night, I finally took the plunge and did something I've been thinking about for a while.
I got my tongue pierced.
I've been thinking about it for years, in fact it was one of the piercings I wanted done but didn't think I had the guts. I mostly put it out of my mind with it only coming up occasionally. When Rach got hers done, I started actively thinking about it again and the desire to do it got more persistent. Since I got three days off this week due to Memorial Day, I decided on Saturday night since I didn't have to be at work until 1:30 on Wednesday.
So far, aftercare has been a breeze. I've been using Listerine rather than the mouthwash they gave me at Mystical Illusions. Really, I've only used the sea salt once and I think the mouthwash is helping more than that does. I started eating regular food the day after I got it done. It wasn't anything major, just some french fries. I've progressed along to where I can eat most things now, though the PB&J sandwich Leona gave me at work was a bit of a pain in the ass.
Really, I don't think it is as bad of a piercing as a lot of people have told me. The guy at Mystical Illusions told me not to smoke for about a week and I've heard it can be painful. I lit up as soon as we left the shop and it didn't bug me at all. Hell, I even had a couple of drinks afterwards and I think it helped the swelling.
I have to say, this is the least painful piercing I have gotten so far. Even my earlobes that were pierced with a gun hurt more. I felt the needle going in and through, but that was it. The painful part was when he was screwing the ball onto the bottom and was tightening it. That struck me as odd since I've heard so many people say it hurt like hell. But, then again, when I got my cartledge pierced, the piercer looked very surprised when I said my nipples didn't really hurt that much after he told me they would be worst than the cartledge piercing pain wise.
My pain tolerence is way high, what can I say?
This brings my piercing count up to nine. And to think I only wanted a few. They're addictive, I tell ya. Now that the swelling has gone down a bit, the feeling of the metal bar is kind of erotic in an oral fixation sort of way.
Saturdat was just a really interesting night. After I got my tongue pierced, Brett and I went to Nawal's 21st birthday party at Groovy's. The reason this took an interesting turn is, we were both worried we wouldn't fit in because we were both wearing and it looked like a pretty upscale place. From the outside.
Inside, it was a disco bar.
I didn't even know disco bars still existed.
So, yeah, we sat there for two hours, didn't dance at all, just socialised with our friends and joked about how we weren't drunk enough to deal with the music.
But, it was worth it to see Nawal and Shala drunk. Shala is one of the quietest people I know. Get her drunk and she talks nonstop. Nawal is very loving when she gets drunk. After a couple of dances, she came back to the section our troupe comandeered and yelled, "I love you all! Each and every one of you! You guys are the reason why I get up every morening! I love you guys!" And then she proceeded to go around to everyone and give them a hug.
While she was at our table, Shala's husband, Sam, brought her a Long Island Iced Tea. She ended up not liking it, leaving it at our table and forgetting about it. Once I saw how drunk she was, I comandeered it for myself. It wasn't too bad. We left shortly after I finished it once Brett and I started talking about selfdone frontal lobe lobotomys with the drink stirry sticks.
Next week is Wassima's 21st birthday party, this time at Club Rain. At least she picked at place with decent music.
I'm thinking a birthday venture for my birthday to The Wreck Room, and the other club they own down the street that serves alcohol for those of us over 21, on July 3rd would be nifty. It's on a Sunday, so it would be The Wreck Room's goth/industerial/new wave night. Might be an interesting time with the various people who would be invited.
And going back to the subject of pain tolerence, I think mine has further went through the roof since the kidney stone. I started my period today and silly me forgot to bring pain killers to work. Normally, my cramps leave me wanting to curl into a whimpering ball and die. I was standing behind the desk when I felt the pain get to the level I would normally do that. Yet, rather than wanting to double over, I was standing there thinkin, "These aren't nearly as bad as I remember." It was more annoying to me than anything else, yet I recognise the feeling of the bad cramps. They just weren't affecting me like they used to.
