I'm watching adult swim right now and it has just reminded me that it is Father's Day. Don't worry, I remembered this morning and called my daddy (I will always call him daddy...or sometimes "dadoo") but it just reminded me again...I should really have kept this in mind all day long.
He returned my call this afternoon (I left him a message this morning) and told me he had bought me a digital camera (I should already have one but a certain ex-boyfriend took the money that I had given him to pay for mine) then asked when I was coming home to visit. I love my daddy.
I remember when I was around 10 years old I spent a summer in Hong Kong with my little cousin. My aunt, uncle, and cousin had just moved and I was there for a month or two. My dad wrote me a letter in broken English because I can't read Chinese. He started the letter with "To my dearest daughter, Mitzi". The whole thing was so touching it made me cry, especially since the English was so bad but he was still trying to put his feelings onto the page.
Sometimes the happiest I ever felt as a child was when I would see him walk through the door of my after-school program center, or hear the honk of his horn at my after-school sitter's house. Back then he was always so comforting because he represented familiarity in my life and now a days, now that I am older he offers comfort by surprising me, like this.
Love you, daddy.
