I just recently read "Suttree" by Cormac McCarthy, and it made me think of you. If you haven't read it, you should check it out. Think the Southern gothicness of Faulkner with the humanity of Kerouac. It was brilliant, both bitter and beautiful.

I believe I introduced Ambien into illicit usage - I got it when it first came out & had one of the highs of my life. Told everyone, take Ambien, but Don't Go To Sleep. Soon was waking next to empty bottles etc - the best (?) was waking up in only tights with a phone number written on my hand, and bay leaves on my pillow.... yeah, had a little Amby problem a while back.

My boston is fucking crazy! She's two and a half months old and she bites dogs who are five times bigger than she is in the butt.
