Dead Houses.
Been kicking around a few new project ideas. This one is to build a photo collection of abandoned houses. They have always facinated me. What's the sotry with them? It takes a pretty noticible event to render a house unlivable: fire, horrid events, creeping poverty, un-noticed death.
So, today I had a nice workout, watched the new SG DVD that finally showed up in the mail then hit the road exploring my new country for Dead Houses. First I headed to a spot where I saw one back in June. This one home was a mansion in the country estate area of Orchard Park NY which was burned out. 'Like a corpse in the middle of a country club' I described it once. But then* I found some asshole has gone and fixed it up. Fuckers. Don't they know what art is? *grumble* So I push onwards into the southtowns keeping an eye peeled. I managed to find one with 2 hours of aimless wanderings.
Not what I had in mind exactly as it is kind of sterile, but it is a start. I could go in to the heart of Buffalo and find some crack houses, but that would be like going to a morgue to get pictures of bodies: where's the challenge? Other criteria I have set down: No barns, sheds or gas stations. I might start a second thread for industrail corpses but in buffalo, that's like going to Iraq to see bomb craters - where's the challenge.
* Of course.
