Well, I think it's time I tried installing Gentoo on my old-ass computer. I just shudder when I think of how long it'll probably take to compile everything on that dinosaur.

The Specs:

450MHz Pentium II Processor (I think.)
64MB SDRAM
12.6GB HDD

And I can't even fucking remember what type of video card it has. *shrug*

Wish me luck! smile

Hmm, yea I already use as many open source products as I can... and yes, Nero is an exception. The way I see it, since I can use an open source OS, I might as well. Plus I have little experience using linux in an everyday setting (where you encounter all the sneeky problems tongue ) and I'd like to feel more confident about it's place on my resume. smile

Well, I work for the montreal neurological institute/hospital which is about 50% research. I work on the research side. We're adjoining (through a bridge between the third floors) the Royal Victoria Hospital. A HUGE beast of an hospital.

About the deads. I've never touched one here. Never helped move one either. In winter, I often cut my walk to work by passing through some basements. One of which contains the morgue so I've seen corpses being moved. And then, there's the pathology collection, that's kind of cool...

Yay! I've finally finished installing everything that I need on my computer. Windows 2000 Professional, I love you. smile

I usually use Gnome, or just command line (depending on what I'm doing). I haven'y heard anything other than KDE and Gnome being recommended.

Hmm, see, while I want a distro I can get up and running reasonably quick, I have two purposes for wanting to use linux:
-It's open source, and I want to support that
-You can't help but really learn what's going on inside mr. computer.
For the second but, I kinda DO want a bit of a head ache, heh. But you're probably right.. I'm a beginner too so maybe I shouldn't get too crazy to start wink
saruman:
Try fluxbox, an hyper-minimalist wm.

Well, I'm back to using Windows again. I must say that it's nice to be back in familiar territory. smile

Just went to see "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". Definitely a good movie. I highly recommend it to anyone who has even the slightest interest in going to see it.

Earlier today, I decided to give shaving "down there" another try. Honestly, I'm quite pleased with the result, although I must say that I need a bit more practice with it. I still feel as...

Gentoo installation attempt #11 is now underway, and it's going quite well. This one should go as planned. If it somehow fucks up, though, I'll just take the easy way out for the time being by installing Kubuntu, instead.

God, I'm such a retard. It would seem as though I shouldn't have been so quick to write zeroes to my hard drive after thinking that my last attempt at installing Gentoo was completely fucked. From what a friend of mine told me at work today, it was actually a very easy (and quick) fix.

Now, I hafta go through all of that bullshit again....

Holy shit! I finally have a working installation of Gentoo on my computer. Networking capabilities are fully in-tact, so I'm able to install everything that I need with a minimal amount of fuss. This time tomorrow, I should be using my computer.

Installing Gentooagain. But hey, that's no problem. It's compiling quite well, and everything is going according to plan. It's just that compiling takes so long, and I wanna use my computer now. This clunky, old-ass Quantex computer has a tendency to freeze for no apparent reason.

In other news, I watched "A Knight's Tale" today. Such a great movie. It's fucking disturbing...

I don't wanna go back to work tomorrow. frown

*sigh* Anyway, I spent pretty much all of today (and yesterday, for that matter) messing with my computer. Gentoo takes a long-ass time to compile itself. That's okay, thoughI'll just pop in a movie.

"Ferris Bueller's Day Off" will do nicely. smile

Well, I've reformatted my computer approximately 15-20 times in the last two weeks in my quest to find the ultimate Linux distro. I still haven't managed to get Gentoo working, although I do have the privilege of having gone through the entire installation.

For some reason, I'm super tired. I think it's time for bed. smile

Yay! I got outta work a little bit early today. I spent a bit of time picking up a birthday present for my [female] roommate. I ended up getting season one of "The Nanny" on DVD for her. I fucking hate Fran Drescher. And, as a male, it's kinda awkward explaining to a female cashier just why you're purchasing "The Nanny".

I hope she believed...
