I'm with you on every single point there. Showers = what your older female relatives throw for the bride b/c that's how you party late in life. Stag/hen parties = an excuse to go out and have a night on the town, with your friends giving you shit for becoming an adult. (NOT, as you say, for any last BJs or lapdances.) Whatever deal you've arranged with your spouse to be should be adequate for your needs. Beyond that, why the hell are you getting hitched? Right?

I'm sorry, I just get into bitching mode so quickly on the subject of weddings. I'm actually a romantic at heart, and love the idea of getting married. It's just that the way everyone I know get's it done is so horribly unappealing to me that I can't figure out what about it the gays want for themselves.

(a joke, btw. I think all humans should have the right to waste a ton of money and inconvenience their friends and loved ones for a full year and come away with nice china and cutlery.)

Contrived...maybe the wrong word. Here's the deal. And you have to understand I ate, darnk and breathed all things German for several years. At the risk of sweping generalities, ehre's my take: I love and respect them for a lot of things, but one thing they are not, for the most part (and its my heritage too, along with Swedish) is overly soulful. They/we are great at practicing and analyzing and engineering things. A Porsche is a beautiful thing. But aren't especially good, at effortless, natural soulfulness. We want to study it and take it apart and try and quantify it instead of letting it just flow....

So, that's my thing. But regardless, if you dig 'em, that's cool and that's all that matters.

As far as Rammstein goes...yea...same deal...German metal. Seems such an overly obvious thing. Expected. No surprises. I suppose it is their best, most natural form of expression... completely true and authentic...but somethng doesn't work for me and the problem is probably just that I'm an old fart now...!!!
