She weaves secrets in her hair
The whispers are not hers to share.
She's deep as a well.
She's deep as a well.
Another day wastes away,
And my heart sinks with the sun.
A new day's dawning,
And a new day has not yet begun.
So, anyway,
There I was,
Just sitting on your porch
Drinking in the sweetest decline.
The sweetest decline.
Sober mind
What's the use in regrets
They're just things we haven't done yet.
What are regrets?
They're just lessons we haven't learned yet.
Another day draws away,
And my heart sinks with the sun.
It's like catching snow on my tongue.
It's like catching snow on my tongue.
So, anyway,
There I was,
Just sitting on your porch
Drink in the sweetest decline.
The sweetest decline.
Sober mind
What are regrets?
What are regrets?
They're just lessons we haven't learned yet.
It's like catching snow on your tongue.

I really love this cd of hers. I haven't listened to it in quite some time and had forgotten how very much I dig it. Her lyrics are brilliant and the arrangements are lovely. Everything following this (including the time I saw her live which disappointed the hell out of me) sort of lost my interest as it all sounded as though she was trying to recapture this period without much luck.
I used to attend a writer's conference at Rutger's University every Spring. You pre-register and have to submit your work for critique not only by the published authors who are holding each class but by the attendees. I would do the fiction and poetry workshops and attend all of the readings. You receive back all the copies of your work with the critiques scrawled all over them after you have gone through each one in the class orally. This one fellow who was a journalist from Delaware had written on one of my poetic pieces "I love your style of writing, reminds me of Beth Orton" I remember finding that uber cool at the time. Even though I am certain I have been writing far longer than Beth - doesn't hurt in comparison.
That is all for now...thank you for your time.
