Totally bummed today. The music world lost a great . . . Ray Charles.
He was the first true artist I had the pleasure to meet and escort to the music venue I worked in Chicago. I remember standing in his hotel room, listening to him talk to his road manager about getting his favorite peanuts from this shop on State Street. Mr. Charles had a really nasty cough and he was so fragile as he held my left arm as we walked to the green room.
As soon as he hit the stage though, you could never tell that he had that nasty cough . . . Sweet, sweet man.
I am honored to have been in his presence.
"Tell me what I say . . ."
