Have you ever loved someone but suppressed it because they needed you more as a friend? Doesn't it just make you want to bang your head against a wall when someone else breaks their heart? did it once, but promised myself never again.
if you have to work with that person, or if one of the two parties doesn't want to ruin a friendship, call it circumstance and chalk it up to "the strength to accept the things i cannot change".
as for the part about them being broken hearted, and you wanting to help...that might be a healthy thought that leads to something unhealthy - or as it was in my case, a way for my brain to cover up the fact that i was quite upset that said person wasn't attracted enough to me in the first place.
