I am currently watching the first 3 seasons of Lost again in preparation for the new season. Funny how so many details have slipped from my mind. The good news is that all of the shows are just as good the 2nd time around.
I had a call last night from the daughter of an old friend. I have known the daughter since she was 10. She is now 24. To my surprise her question was, "How do you think my Mom will react when I tell her I am gay." The question surprised me and at the same time made me proud. She said, "I didn't know who else to call but I knew I could trust you."
I told her that she was not going to be able to manage her Mom's response. No matter what, her Mom needed to own her own response. I also told her that her Mom loves her and ultimately wants her to be happy. There will definately be a period of adjustment, but in the end, her Mom would love her no matter what.
I hope that was the right answer. In the end, if nothing else, it was an honest answer.
I wish that people could just accept others for who and what they are. Without all this bullshit. Unfortunately, even on a site like this one, that doesn't seem to be likely. There are some on this site that are just as hateful as in the lowest level of hell.
It bothers me that so many people waste their time and energy doing nothing but judging others.

Judging people will go on, as it's an inherited inclination related to judging ourselves. A vaccine to end this would be a fine thing indeed. In the jungle, the strong live and the weak die. The belief that others are flawed provides some reassurance that we may be safe and that is not a process we can dislodge with a suggestion or a conversation. This is not to suggest giving up.
