"there is no uninteresting subject. there are only subjects about which you know nothing at all, so that you cannot understand how fascinating they really are." - orson scott card

true that.

i became very aware of some things after hearing card talk. it wasn't really related to what he was saying; he was just throwing out some semi-radical theories on the truth in the book of genesis, which i was afraid he'd do, but he even made that fascinating. i've always maintained that orson scott card and i are brain-twins, from reading his stuff, and now i know it to be fact.

no, i realized that there will be no small life for jovia. there will be no 'just getting by.' i want to inspire and offend and create and generally wreak a constructive sort of havoc on the world -- or at least a part of it. why live a small life when this could very well be your single chance?

yes, that's right. philosophizing from a twenty-year-old. i'm sure you're enthralled.

i was first in line for autographs. he sat down in front of me and smiled. i opened my mouth and had no control over what i was saying. heartbeat increase, flush to the face. among other things, i told card (as quickly as i could) about having gone to a boarding school for science and math nerds. the first two months of attendance, i absolutely hated it. out of the blue, ender's game was recommended to me by a friend from home; after reading it, i felt comforted. there was so much of ender i (and countless other smarter-than-average bears) saw in myself. card was impressed, i just know it.

then i told him that my favorite book of his is pastwatch, and his face lit up. "i think that's my best science fiction work ever," he said. i think i said something like "haahatathyeahshhs" and giggled, probably an octave above normal human hearing.

what a guy.

i hit the table really hard when i realized i had forgotten my camera at home. i suck.

his inscriptions are wonderful, though: "to jovia -- in the darkness, where do shadows go?" and "jovia -- out of darkness, light!"

love

you're all jealous.
