I'm leaving for a 5 day cross country skiing trip on Wednesday and am starting to get my stuff together for the trip. I've never done a ski/backpack trip before, in fact I've never really winter camped before (I do all of my hiking in the summer) but I'm going with some people who do this trip every year so I'm not nervous about that part. What's got me feeling nervous is that these people are the type that eat really, really well when their in the woods. They bring cheese, fresh fruit and vegetables, and cook really elaborate meals. Me? I eat ramen, or maybe rice if I'm feeling especially twee. Part of how these folks operate is that everyone is responsible for the group dinner on one of the nights and It's highly competitive who cooks the bast meal. That's what's got me nervous (Now I realize I'm making my friends sound neurotic and weird, which they are, but they're also really fun to hike with.) I'm not interested in making the best thing, fuck competition, but I feel like I at least need to not me a slouch when it comes my turn. Since Ramen is clearly not an option I'm at a total loss as to what I'm going to cook. This is scarier than avalanches. But not bears, bears are scarier, thankfully they're sleeping.

When I camp I make kabobs... Prep them at home, put on the stick and pack them well.
Complete meal on a stick.
Good luck.
