so i haven't posted any of my writing for a while, here's some bones i dug up from my documents. this is from a novel a publisher ALMOST published. one day i'll revise it maybe. enjoy.
From The Depths of Teenage Nothingness...
Everyone in the car was pissed at me except for Tray, who was in too much pain to talk. Justins anger frightened me, as Shannons just became as numbing as any other pain deep down inside. The results of Justins anger were impossible to predict, while I knew that Shannons would eventually dissolve, and finally after sulking over silent coffee outings, shed sigh and simply say, You ruined what could have been the perfect ending to my girlhood. Oh, well. Maybe Id make a quirky response like So, now you get to keep your virginity, and the Snapple bottle.
I kept looking at Justins face. His bottom lip stuck out and his cheeks were puffy with rage. Just I started to say his name, but I chickened out and turned to look out the window.
Youre my girl, Josephine, he spoke in heartbreaking anthem, Youre supposed to be my girl.
I knocked and knocked, and before long I started kicking. The bitch had to let me in, I thought. She couldnt lock me out all night. MOM! I shouted, banging on the door. Everything inside of me ached. I was sore from getting kicked in the ribs, I was upset because both my best friend and my boyfriend hated my guts right now, and now my own mother had locked me out of the house. Mother, I broke down in tears, pleading at the locked door. The curtains became two dark wrinkled squares as she killed the light and went to bed. I turned around and looked out at the dark parking lot. I could go to the park, which wasnt really enough of a playground to be called that. There was a swing set and monkey bars at the end of the apartment complex. Directly behind the swing set was a short land of woods, and eventually a church. The church, known as Grim Reapers church, was the creepiest building in all of Salisbury. Some people blamed the shadowy spill against the churchs front door that perfectly matched that of the Grim Reapers unholy figure, on the lighting. But we didnt believe that something so morbid could be produced by a light bulb. My friends and I drove by it a countless number of times. We once joked about getting high and leaving the car to check it out, but none of us were made yet of that kind of courage.
For a minute or so, I just sat down and listened to the chirping of crickets. I decided against hanging out on the swings for the off chance of some madman leaping from the woods and grabbing me from behind. It was four in the morning when Justin dropped me off. The sun would come up soon, and Id feel safer. I decided in the meantime, to walk up to the gas station. Maybe that pimply-faced kid would be there, watching MTV.
He was there, and he was swatting at a fly with a rolled up comic. He nodded at me when I walked in, sounding off that alarming cowbell. You need something? I heard him call out to me. He was peeking over the rack of comics at me. Cos Im closing up.
But you never close, I snapped back.
Yeah, well, new hours. I looked out of the window. Night was still very much a part of the world and would be for the next hour or so. A truck plowed down the street. I didnt want to go back out there alone.
