ok... so not having a "real" job has its benefits: I get to spend more time goofing off. (alright, I know--"duh", but It still doesn't cease to amaze me how money can make money). Anyhow.
I found the coolest download. You ever seen scenes in movies/games where they zoom-in on the earth from outer space (e.g. Enemy of the State, MIB, Wing Commander? Well, now Keyhole, this company Google bought, has an app that allows you to do just that with real satellite imagery! I spent like 5 hours tonight messing with it-- It's a free 7-day trial, and they've got hi-res (~2 ft) photos of Baghdad, Kabul, and a lot of the US! I can seriously make out my driveway and apple tree! Long live Google!
On the downside, though, the app crashed a couple times when I tried to jump from country to country (you're supposed to have a 128kbs connection and a good graphics card), and had only physical features of places I'd traveled to internationally. Overall, however, I think I have a new toy. This thing is like Mapquest on steroids =)
peace all.
