It's a chilly one. The night is illuminated by the incandecent moon. I hear the fog horn from the near by lighthouse. It's very faint, very quiet. The wind carried it here. I went out in the cold tonight. Went to the Elfin forrest. Thats what it is really called the Elfin forrest. I'm not trying to be playful with my words. I suppose they call it that because it is made up of costal shrubs and miniture trees that stand at highest 4 ft. tall. In this elfin forrest is a pathway. A wooden pathway which tonight was covered in a thin frost making it slippery. It was a bright night. The moon lit up the world in a blue light. I could hear the waves in the distance crashing down onto the shore. I walked to the end of the wooden path to where it over looks the entire estuary. An estuary is a costal marsh. Just beyond the estuary is a bay and than a sand island portruding from out the bay. Than the bay than the Pacific. It's sometimes too much for the eye to take in. On the other side of the bay sits a massive rock, an ancient volcano. It sits watch over it's bay. At the end of the path are benches and those signs that tell of the geology, biology, and history of the place. Tonight I read one. It claimed that thousands of years earlier the Chumash had roamed these parts setting up costal villages all over the bay. I thought about it for awhile than I looked around and saw the glow of lights from the houses dotting the coast, the bright beakcon of the light house and the blinking lights of the nuculear power plant on the otherside of the bay. What was it like I thought. What was it like to be here with out all these things. Without the wooden path without the hum of cars from the nearby road. Was it better? Was it worse? I just longed to see it. I stared out into my veiw thinking all these things. The answers never came. I got too cold and had to trek back home but I can still here the fog horn blowing in the wind and it reminds me...
