So if any of you read my profile you know that I hail from the Cocos Keeling Islands. So I thought it was about time to tell you about my home. There are 27 coral islands in the group. Captain William Keeling discovered the islands in 1609, but they remained uninhabited until the 19th century. Annexed by the UK in 1857, they were transferred to the Australian Government in 1955. The population on the two inhabited islands generally is split between the ethnic Europeans on West Island and the ethnic Malays on Home Island. The islands are aproximatly 14sq km in combined area or about 24 times The Mall in Washington DC. Coconuts are our sole cash crop and man we can't get enough of them. Coconut cake, coconut milk, coconut stew, coconut beer, coconut meatloaf...yes coconut meatloaf.....it just works ok....geez! Do I question your bizarre foods? For instance, spam or tang? No, so leave me alone damn it! Anyway the truth is it's a beautiful place. A tropical island paradise.
Ok, ok I lied I'm not really from the Cocos Islands. I'm from Jersey.....ok thats a lie too, but seriously I probally would never even heard of the Cocos Keeling Islands if it wasn't for SG. We are so ethnocentric here in the U.S that gems such as the Cocos Islands go unnoticed. Thanks SG for showing me just how inadequate I am in geography and also just how ignorant we all can be no matter how enlightened we think we are....in closing I would like to say one last thing.....oh shit I forgot.....damn it! It was good too, really good. Something meant to inspire to change your lives......what the hell was it!? Oh well maybe next time kids!!
