ok, so i've been meaning to get this update done for days now.. well 2 days atleast..
anyways, malaysia trip was pretty cool.. we flew out on a friday morning and got into Langkawi at around 8pm, their time, then a nice leisurely drive out to the hotel.. now when i say leisurely i mean it, the speed limit is 60km over there but i dont think anyone does over 35-40, Langkawi is just so laid back..
anyways, i was over there for a conference, but also had a couple of days off to go sight seeing.. so i get up saturday morning all ready to go explore but found out that i had a meeting instead..fuck.. so the meeting went well and we, me and my boss, ended up getting roped into picking people up from the airport.. so we grabbed a mini bus that the company had hired and started picking people up from the airport, it was kinda fun considering that we had only flown in ourselves the night before and didnt really know where we were going.. was some suprised faces at the airport when we picked people up..
saturday night we had dinner with a few of the other conference people, then me, 2 swiss guys and a frech guy went to the local night club.. worst name ever, "Ground Zero" and the name of the actual bar inside where you order your drinks was called "Radiation Bar".. so bad names aside, this place was pretty funny.. all the tables were light boxes with neon blue lights in them which really made your skin look bad, the bar was made out of the same stuff, the dj booth was the same too.. the dj was spinning some really old classics from the 80's as well as some relatively new top 40 stuff.. then there was the live band, dodgy asian cover band.. these two really thin local girls supported by a male vocalist, drummer, bass guitar, electric guitar and keyboards.. they cranked out some old hits like "hotel california" and "momma mia" as well as some bad 90's songs like that crappy whitney houston song from "the bodyguard"... they also did a version of that simple plan song, "perfect" or whatever its called.. i'll link some pics in later..
so the next day i had a fuckhole of a hangover, stupid body clock did not adjust and i woke up at 4am (7am aest)..arrggghhhh... i had like 4 hours sleep.. drank heaps of water and took 4 panadol and managed to get back to sleep for another hour.. the next couple of days was boring work stuff, sitting in conference room listening to crap about new products, blah blah blah.. then we had a half day tour thing.. we went around the island looking at shops and local sights, nothing really that inspiring, though i did find out that they have a very large squirrel population..
we also went to a little fishing village, this place was almost the only place on the entire island that was affected by the tsunami.. there were boats overturned and broken up, there were houses that were fairly damaged, and lots of sand around that was not even close to the beach.. we didnt stay long at this little village, basically we went there to grab some fresh fish and lobsters for dinner, i overpaid massively for my stuff cause i felt really shit about being there in the first place.. i didnt take any photos there either for obvious reasons.. anways, we got told the story of what happened there, basically no one was hurt when the first wave went through, they all ran out into the streets to catch all the fish that were flopping around on the ground, unfortunately the wave receeded and many people were washed out to sea where they were hit by the second wave.. 16 people in this small village died..
we flew out of Langkawi the following day and had a 3 hour stop over in Singapore, god the airport gets boring after about 45 minutes of walking around.. i didnt find any cool new gadgets over there, i bought a couple of vcd's and that was about it.. 7 hours later we landed in Sydney, 2 hours drive later i was at home in Newcastle..
anyways thats about it from the trip, i'll try to get some pics up tomorrow.. i'd do it now but i'm stuffed after driving for 11 hours to Melbourne today.. i'm around all week so if any locals wanna grab a beer let me know.. big day out next sunday, cant wait..
will catch you all later..
