Alright, I have a couple of questions for you. 1. Have you heard of the new Avengers graphic novel Rage of Ultron? I just finished reading it. I don't know how you feel about modern Marvel, but I highly recommend this book. It showcases a couple of my favorite characters and Ultron who is one of my all-time favorite villains. The Vision, Hank Pym, male and female Thor, Falcon as Captain America. If you're not all the way up to date on current story lines you might miss some small details, but all in all its a great story. And the art work is incredible!! 2. Are you reading the current run of Thor and what do you think of it? Are you bothered by the new female lead and are you interested in the identity of the character? I'm always interested in your opinion of comics and what's going on in that world.

I COMPLETELY understand the economical reasons behind using the MU app. I buy way too many titles and it costs way too much money. I've often thought about signing up for that service myself but I really don't have the time I'd like to dedicate towards reading back issues. There's so much I'd like to read out there!!! That run on Thor was amazing. The God Butcher arc was written so well and really memorable. I can remember my wife saying "This story line is way too long!" while she read it, but I think that's appropriate when the story carries the way that one did. It didn't seem to run out of breath half way through the way a lot of x-men stuff tends to sometimes. The female Thor material is definitely worth the wait! I've read you typical grumblings online about Thor not being a man and that Marvel ruined the character, but come on people! Don't you want a little variety?? The same thing with when spider-man did the brain swap with Doc Oc. That was fresh feeling and in my opinion, if there's any series that needs new life breathed into it it's Spiderman. I read Spider Gwen also. Great book and art also. I picked up Silk and it's pretty good too. I read the Spider-verse crossover event and had mixed feelings about that. Thanks for answering my question! Β  Β

You're very welcome! Any time! I love comics but finding the time to keep up with them is really difficult, so the MU app works fine for me. 😊 Being able to dip in and out of titles and decades etc is just really cool. I've been enjoying Claremont and McLeod on New Mutants and Jack Kirby's mildly insane Black Panther run. 😊

I've been wondering about something with comics and as far as I'm concerned, you're the man to talk to. I'm more of a Marvel comics guy myself and I'm currently reading, and enjoying the hell out of the Black Vortex crossover. All of the reviews I've read online have criticized this series for lacking depth, weight or any driving force in story telling. Frankly, I'm confused. I enjoy every book that's involved in this crossover. I don't even need to add any books (besides the ongoing Cyclops book that is) to my pull list to complete this entire event. With that being said, is there, in your opinion, any problem with enjoying an event or series of books that doesn't hold a serious amount of clout or weight according to online reviewers or hardcore fans off any particular series? Are there any "fluff" crossovers that you've enjoyed even though they weren't looked at favorably by popular opinion?

I've not read the Black Vortex stuff yet. Β (I'm way behind on my comics reading - for Marvel, I tend to stick with Marvel Unlimited, although I am picking up the SHIELD and Star Wars titles as they come out. But I digress...) Β The bottom line is that if you enjoy it, you enjoy it and that's cool. Β If Black Vortex is Bendis (I think it is), then enjoying it shouldn't be a problem, because Bendis is a damn fine writer. His characterisation is excellent and he writes some of the most entertaining action scenes in comics (I shall refer you to New Avengers vol 1 issue 11, which contains probably the funniest extended fight scene ever, and the brutal taking down of a Phoenix-force empowered Namor in Avengers vs X-Men issue 8, but there are tons more.) Speaking personally, I like cross-overs and events, but I understand why, if you're only buying one or two of the titles affected, you resent them. At the end of the day, though, it's all about whether you're enjoying the story. And if you are, then there's nothing, I'd argue, to worry about. :)
tulfanbru:
I agree about crossover fatigue. It seems that if you read any comic at all these days you're going to be involved in an event at some point and time. I just started to get into comics again around 5 years ago when Fear Itself came out. I got every single book that tied into that event. That was before I started school back up and I can remember the piles of books I had every week (not to mention the price tag on them....). That taught me a lot about what and what not to do with an event. Now I just go for the titles that I absolutely love. It saves on confusion and cash. Bendis is doing this story line and so far it's been great. If you have the ability to, maybe wait until a trade comes out. A week by week chapter installment seems like it might be a grind to say the least. I read the X-men Children of the Atom story line, what was that, two years ago now? At the start it went really well, and dragged in the middle, but I still liked it for the most part. This story is holding my attention more. Thanks for the input. I enjoy hearing what you have to say!
