Many thanks to @missy, @rambo and @lyxzen for a very thought-provoking homework.

The topic has been playing on my mind for a few days now. There have been an awful lot of excellent posts about this from a variety of people and I’m not convinced that I can add much to what others have already said. The following are my thoughts. If they replicate posts...

I needed that reminder about apologise. A good one with no story or excuse. Great point!!!

I've been falling behind... It's a bit of an inevitability really, given the process of getting used to the demands of the new academic year. Which, incidentally, I'm still enjoying, although I'm nowhere near as organised this week as I was last! :)

Anyhoo, here's some gorgeous hopeful sets from the last few days...

@Elaena is beautiful. If you're one of her many fans and...

Last week was the first full week back at school and it's been fun, but also tiring. There have been a ton of excellent hopeful sets over the last week or so. These are the standouts for me...

@In_Su is extraordinarily beautiful, as is obvious from the photo below. Her set, Follow The Sun, is a wonderful sun-kissed celebration of that indisputable fact. With...

I threw this at my year 10s today. I think it rings true now just as much as when Disraeli was alive. A case in point would, ironically enough, be education, which is increasingly predicated on exam success rather than the wider moral, social and intellectual development of young people.

Anyhoo, I've asked them for a written response to it for a week tomorrow. (A

That could have been worse and, in many ways, was actually pretty pleasant. The fact that half my timetable is teaching bottom sets brings challenges and bonuses; the teaching will be challenging and my differentiation game will need to be good, but there will be a smaller volume of marking (bottom sets are smaller numerically and tend to produce less). Swings and roundabouts, everyone. Swings...

Thank you, @vehera! The timetable's a bit weird. Two full days followed by a day with a free afternoon (Wednesday) followed by two full days again. It's kind of... intense. I'm feeling it tonight, tbh. But, the classes are pretty good for the most part. My bottom set in year 10 is just lovely. Nice kids who really want to learn. Can't ask for more than that. :)

One of the things that never ceases to amaze me on this site is the sheer range, creativity and beauty of the body art on display. I fully understand that tattoos are a personal thing for many people, so I'm not going to comment too specifically on the tattoos here. I will say that they are all lovely, that the female canvases on which they...

... 'White House Down'. Why? I'm really not sure. I will say this though: Jamie Foxx makes a far better action president than Harrison Ford, Aaron Eckhart or Bill Pullman.

Plus, those White House podiums are made out of incredibly strong stuff, aren't they?

@jezzied I'd advise bumping it up on the list, it's a great show & season 2 is improving on season 1.

The new school year beckons, which means, among other things, I probably won't be quite as active on the site as I have been over the summer. So, I thought I'd put together a post of some of my favourite hopeful images of the last few weeks. The common thread that ties these disparate pics together? The gaze at the camera and the subsequent catch...

I do my best, @midnightsun. I do wish I had more time to do it, but those bills don't pay themselves! 😊

About ten years ago, I started running an RPG group at the school where I teach. It was a natural offshoot of the sci-fi and fantasy club I was running at the time and, eventually, came to outgrow, overshadow and finally replace its parent club. In the six or seven years I ran it, there were probably about twenty-five kids involved to a greater or...

I started playing D&D back when I first got the basic edition in early eighties and then Advanced D&D in high school and later second edition with friends but the most important part of a campaign was a good storyteller as DM. It's good to know that at least your DM was willing to bend the rules to make a satisfying game experience.

... what would it say?

Hmmm...

"WARNING: INVETERATE WAFFLER. DO NOT ENGAGE IF IN A HURRY."

Well, I do like words.

I used to waffle terribly, but I think I might be a bit better now. I listen a bit more than I used to, but, if you get me onto a topic I'm excited about (Doctor Who or comics will do it; the...

Well, thank you, both of you. This is such a friendly, welcoming and inspiring site (and both of you are excellent examples of that), it's easy to get carried away! 😊
