I recently read something on another website. I'm going to quote what I think is the most relevant portion and then unpack it a bit.

"When someone puts their body on display and doesn't ask for your opinion on their weight, shape, size, etc, keep your opinion to yourself. Just don't be a dick. It's that simple."

It's the first sentence that really draws my critical attention. "When someone puts their body on display and doesn't ask for your opinion on their weight, shape, size, etc, keep your opinion to yourself." Fair enough, as far as it goes. And yet, I can't help but conclude that this person is deeply hypocritical because, on the one hand, she is offended by negative opinions about her body, and yet is very appreciative of praise and worship. And what this tells me is that she doesn't actually believe what she says, because, if she did, she would be just as critical of the positive comments as the negative ones. After all, the positive comments are un-requested opinions about her weight, shape, size, etc., and since they're un-requested opinions they should also be unwelcome. But they're not; she loves them, gushes over them, invites them. It seems to me that what she really means to say is that she only wants positive judgments. And if that's the case, fine. More power to you. But you shouldn't be allowed to have your cake and eat it too. If you want to put your body on display and invite comment, it seems to me that you should be prepared to take the negative along with the positive.
