Lately I've been putting a lot of my time into a real live comics blog on wordpress under the same name I use everwhere else. If you want, you can read it here. I actually have grown to like reviewing, talk about and hunt down scans of the issues I'm obsessing over. I really need to get a scanner though, to move it up to the next level.
I've noticed that between thirty and forty people are reading each day, but virtually no one leaves comments, I guess people on wordpress don't like to talk about comics like they do here. But that's fine, I suppose, it just feels weird that so many people are reading and so little have anything to say. Nobody has even challenged me on the stuff I've said was bad.
Yesterday I stopped by my comic shop to pick up my pull list and picked up my stack, which was a little over $100. The full list can be read right here
The guy who runs the shop recommended Metal Men #1 to me, which I haven't read yet, but virtually everything he's ever suggested I get has been good. Fallen Angel, Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters, Justice Society of America, Amazons Attack, he has a good track record.
I also removed Countdown from my pull list because it doesn't seem to be getting any better. I feel rather apathetic toward it and find that, when it's in my pile to read, I just keep moving it back a few books until it's the last thing to read and even then I don't really want to read it. Since it's a weekly book, I can't support that much bad material. It's not even bad, it's just not any good. I mean to write something on the comic blog about it. I know it's all leading to Final Crisis, but I really don't feel like suffering until then.
Also, Peter David, of X-Factor and Fallen Angel, has a new fantasy novel entitled Darkness of the Light: Book 1 of The Hidden Earth. I haven't had a chance to read any of his novels yet, but I jumped on this new fantasy series. I'd imagine it to be pretty good, he's one of my favorite writers today.
In non-geek news. I got the job at the industrial contract company. They do heating, plumbing, air conditioning, electrical work, that sort of thing. I got hired on as a lackey type position with the option to work in an apprenticeship and eventually get into a union-paid position as an electrician. So that should mean considerably more money, which would allow me to both move and buy new comic books(all one could really want in life), though I was so excited I forgot to ask what I would be paid. I put in my two weeks notice at the airport and I'm going to spend my Tuesdays until my two weeks are up working at the new place.
But now I'm off to Borders to read up about tools and pipes and such. I'm a nancyboy and know nothing of the sort.
