Hmm, back to the journal. It's been so long since I updated.

This whole war thing is so surreal. Being out at sea we are pretty cut off from the 'real' world. Although CNN (confilct news neverending) is always on, it plays out more like a made for TV action movie than anything else.

I think the only thing keeping at least somewhat grounded is the knowledge that one of my best friends of nearly 20 years is an Explosives and Demolition specialist in the army. I havn't gotten an e-mail from him since just before the war started so I'm sure he is on some assignement somewhere.

I'm here on the ship until 24 May and will leave the ship in Barcelona. I plan on spending a month or more in Europe seeing various ship friends. My friend is stationed in Germany so I really hope this war thing ends by then so I have the chance to visit him and his family in my journeys.

I've got many more musings about life and love, but I it is 4am and I've just consumed 4 Grey Goose and Vodkas so I do not feel very eloquent at the moment. Suffice it to say that my best friend here on the ship is an amazing girl who has a boy on land that she seems to be waiting for. We once made a pact to be best of friends and not try to 'get in each other's pants'.

As time goes by, we spend more and more time together, often just the two of us. She hardly ever speaks of the boy on land, just enough to give the impression that there is something there; but not enough to make it seem very serious. Long story short, I do think I may be falling in love, if I can remember what that is. I've come to the conclusion; however, that the only thing that I want more than a relationship is to make sure that nothing threatens our friendship. She has mentioned that she has plans to meet up with this guy for a night when the ship gets to Venice and we stay in port for over 24hours. At the same time, we have plans for trips together and visits to each other to cover the next few years even after we both leave this ship and this guy never entered those plans. I'm hoping that maybe Venice will be more of a closure type of thing for them and maybe we can move foreward.

Anyway, I begin to ramble, but that is the Reader's Digest version to catch up a bit since my last update confused
