Good god, has it really been a month since my last entry?!?! The Cruise Ship Universe's Time Warp Phenomenon has hit me hard. It's easy to lose track out at sea normally, but since my current ship is doing longer (10/11 day cruises) it's even harder. Used to be I could at least tell what day of the week it was by the port we were in--ie being in Miami meant it was Saturday. Now, Miami is either Monday or Friday.

Anyway, my journal and my presence on the boards will enjoy a brief resurgence as I had to come home for 11 days and don't have to worry about the pay-per-minute, super-freakin-slow interent.

This is the first time I've set foot on Oregon soil during the month of December in 3 years. As much as I enjoy being home, even for such a brief stay, I wish it was for a better reason. My grandmother passed away so my family and I will go to Spokane, WA for the memorial service over the weekend.

She had been ill for many, many years and it is probably a blessing that she doesn't have to endure any more suffering. I don't know that she ever had any prolonged physical pain, but her qualty of life was nil over the last couple years. She could barely see, speak, or even move. I always wondered how cognizant she was mentaly, or if her awareness dwindled with her physical being. At least I know that she is now free of her mortal shell .

Now that she has passed, I fear that my grandfather will not be far behind. He is fairly hale, considering he is in his mid 80's, but his life has been focused around caring for my grandmother for so long and kept hom anchored. When your spouse of nearly 60 years leaves, I would imaging wanting to join them so your spirits can soar together.

In addition to having to come home for less than happy circumstance, I am a bit under the weather myself. I already had an ear infection and a bit of a scratchy throat before flying home, and the flights took those maladies and exploded them inside my head. It's been over over 24 hours since my flight landed and neither of my ears have popped and the pressure has spread troughout my sinuses---oh the humanity!!

Time for another dose of Sudafed and then to bed!
faith:
I've missed you...
