So here is my very first update ever! After 10 years... LOL. I sit here in my basement of a house that is in various stages of packing. We are moving the equine facility from Missouri to the mountains of Virginia. Along with that move is an upgrade from equine facility to full fledged farm. There will be enough land to put up my own hay (in theory, enough to feed all of the animals), we got two dairy cows, and will be adding pigs, chickens, and goats before too long. I am super excited to be transitioning from just horse-care into actual farming. We will still be teaching horseback riding lessons and training horses but we will be adding a lot more in the way of self-sustainability. With any luck we can add a weekend on the farm experience for visitor's and continue to promote the farm's reputation and horse sales as well. Here's to a new phase in life. :)
This is a picture I took the other day when checking to see if my two new Jersey cows were ok. The one in front is Muffin, a 2 year old heifer. The one at the feed trough is Piper, she is an 8 year old proven dairy cow. They are both from the dairy I used to work at before they closed up shop. It is a fitting tribute that I will start my new farm with the very first heifer born at their farm and their very last heifer.
