I closed my eyes and open them to find darkness, cold and unrelenting. The world was made barren as the sun faded in a sudden burst, never to rise again. The people of this now dying world wept as many of the strong perished, the young wilted, and many families were torn ragged while the forests burned, seas froze, and many species of animals perished. As everything seemed to stack against life on this rock and those that remained laid down and waited for the end, a glimmer of hope appeared on the horizon. The horizon began to glow hot orange, dimly lighting the sky much like you would see at sun set or rise, and the sky turned to a dark deep blue amidst the black of night. And, all the planet chased after this glimmer of hope and began a fight, not to survive but to thrive on this new planet.
Many years passed but this spirit never faded just like the light just over the horizon never set on this planet, and the people did thrive through their labors(and a lot of luck). It would seem that plant life had it hardest on this new world, choked for light that artificial could not reproduce. Then something amazing happened, an organism that naturally produced light from water and glucose bonded with common grass. In a years time, glowing fields began spring up all of the world as this new plant life began to thrive despite this new environment. It would be years later before other plants would take this new organism and become something else, but soon others followed; flowers, hedges, vines, and finally the trees. After all was said and done, gardening was never the same again as people began decorating lodgings, buildings, and ruins with these new foliage. Using plant life to light walk ways and outside gathering and work areas changed the mood and mindset of the people(they could do this).
With access to new and natural lighting, the people of this world were able to get out and begin undertaking massive projects. The first of these would be building an aquifer that could easily transfer water to the people with out the problem of freezing or impurity problems. As it stands civilization was confined to communal housing around natural ground wells. After many tried and failed attempts, an unconventional method was reached, treating water in large shielded hoses and treated with high doses of UV lighting( if you were to look at it would resemble the concept of dsl) ending in a pool of lighted water. So as this new water delivery system was implemented, more and more family housings sprang up around these light wells.
As people began designing their homes, an interesting design concept became dominant. To make full use of the light from the well and to collect any rain that may fall the inner part of the home was made to look like a cone with an opening in the top with the individual rooms encompassing the inner cone, the next room would follow suit but be offset from the first, and the process would continue til you had a building that resembled a flower, much like a rose, right as it was beginning to open. Neighborhoods eventually grew and, once again, became common place, soon after cities followed.
I close my eyes and open them to a world of beauty and wonder. A planet that once was cold and left to die, now if vibrant with light and life. A world now known as Twilight.
