Failure to launch

That's the name of a movie with Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew David McConaughey. It was released in 2006 and was about a man who still lived with his parents at age 35.

Back in my day, if you lived with your parents past age 18, you were made fun of. Laughed at. Teased. Doctors even had a word for it. Girls wouldn't date guys that lived with their parents. There's many movies where the topic was discussed. I bet there's even songs about. Girls wrote about it. Newspapers published articles about it. Men's magazines talked about how living at home still was a huge turn off for most women. There's still things on the web about it.

Most people couldn't wait to move out of their parents place. They couldn't wait to start a life of their own. Get a job, get married, have a couple of kids, buy a house, own a dog, etc. Then they could have their own rules without mom and dad annoying the piss outta them.

It's been 13 years since that movie came out. That movie wouldn't have been made in this day. It's just not something any business minded person would have wanted to even think about.

This day and age, there's no such thing as failure to launch. Not only is not something talked about but parents encourage kids to stay at home. Guys talk about owning the home when their parents die. I have friends that are married with kids and still live at home. These guys have a great credit rating. Like I've seen their credit scores. Some are lazy and some are very active. Gone are the days when women wouldn't even consider a man who lived with his parents.

I have this one good friend that is married and has a kid and still lives with his parents. He has a job where he makes double my salary and doesn't pay rent. He's got a great credit score (he fucking better am I right? lol) and has several toys. He's a good dude but quite lazy. When things don't go well at work (he's a co-worker of mine) he gets really mad. Really? lol. Anyway he's a great friend and I am jealous of him.

This generation of kids have single handily fucked up of the norm of many many generations before them. And by fucked up I mean really changed everything. They have closed stores that have been around since the Great Depression, (think online shopping). They don't want kids. They have glued their phones to their hands. They are offended by everything. They all seem to think they should be paid more for no work experience even while living at home. Many of them don't even want relationships. No one wants to get married. A lot have many YouTube videos doing dangerous things like eating Tide Pods all for a few ''likes''. Grammar and English are no longer important. A thousand dollar phone is the most important thing to them.

Now obviously these are my thoughts based on experiences, I know everyone is different. I'm not out to ''offend'' anyone or anything. I do love change. There are just some things I don't like. And I don't think I like this new norm. This blog was really all about a failure to launch and I got side tracked and messed it up a bit.
