I bet that show makes you cringe. There are many people that hated Spongebob. Especially mothers. I know some mothers that wanted to kill the creator. Yet it's won some awards and has been around since 1999. And from the looks of things, it's still on the air.
I loved Spongebob. Like everyone knew and gave me Spongebob related items during Christmas. Some I still have. I view Spongebob as real life. Think about it. You have your money hungry boss (Mr Krabs) , his rival (Plankton), your best friend (Patrick Star), your friend with connections (Sandy Cheeks), your neighbor that hates everyone who also happens to be your co-worker (Squidward Tentacles), your pet (Gary), and your teacher (Mrs. Puff).
The show was created by a Marine Biologist named Stephen Hillenburg. Who was a busy man. From teaching to creating films to making books, to being an artist and other accolades. He died last year in November from ALS. He was 57 years old.
So hate Spongebob all you want. I still like the show.
