Language barriers

Both on this site and at my job there are many people that speak very little English. My job recently hired a non-speaker of English (non meaning English isn't her first language) in my department and I have a problem with that. What's my problem? I become a stuttering stanley. I don't know how much they know and I use a lot of slang which really can confuse the hell out of the non-speaker. So I speak much slower and think while trying to speak and this is nerve wrecking. This starts confusing me, and I get frustrated with myself because I'd not perfect at these kinds of things. I love being a teacher but I don't speak a lick of foreign languages. I can read and understand some words at least in Spanish. If those words were said in Spanish I'd be like huh? The non-speakers flock to my job because my job allows it. I think they made some kind of deal with the government to get them in. It has been said the non-speakers are some of the hardest working people. But at the place I work at that remains unknown. Will remain unknown because the way my work is set up, there's a ton of standing around going on because there's not a lot to do at my job. I do not like my job because of this. My other job sucked but it was constant heavy duty work. I love teaching and helping people but when English is a problem, it's very hard for me. I don't get mad or frustrated with the person I'm talking to. I love a good challenge but this isn't really something I can work at during my job.

I know it's very difficult. I'm Italian and I worked for a company who sells products all around the world. You know, Italians are not so good in English, unfortunately at school they don't teach foreign languages very well, we do foreign language only 2 hours per week till high school. Anyway, I got in touch with Indians too, and it's not so simple to understand each other by phone. Fortunately day by day I improved my English and I learnt to understand slang too, but at the beginning it was very difficult

@lillynoize you're already ahead of most English speakers. Seems they are unable to tell the differences between  to and too. I think your English is nearly as good as mine. I don't fault most foreigners for not speaking English well. But I do fault those whose first language is English.
