Among the many fake claims on Facebook. Among them is one I found to be intriguingly interesting. Being able to clone something that went extinct 65 million years ago. The dinosaur. Okay so far the only way to bring back a species is by DNA. Sadly DNA has a shelf life of about 500 years. There have been reports of DNA from 100,000 years ago (maybe longer or shorter not sure off top my head). But that report was because of the natural preserver of cold in the far north.
Not only do you have the problem of cloning with DNA, let's say we did have DNA to clone a dinosaur. Now you have the problem of a suitable host. Because you can't just spawn it in a lab. Test tubes have always failed. So the question would be what animal would be a suitable host? I forget the name of the bird that died out years ago but they tried cloning that with another type of bird. But that failed several times also.
So is it possible to clone dinosaurs? Short answer is yes. But to clone them in the next 5 years as a Facebook post claims? No.
