"Deportees" - Woody Guthrie
Performed by The Dubliners
The crops are all in and the peaches are rotting
The oranges filed in their creosote dumps
You`re flying 'em back to the Mexico border
To pay all their money to wade back again
Chorus:
Goodbye to my Juan, goodbye Roselita
Adios mes amigos, Jesus y Maria
You won't have a name when you ride the big airplane
All they will call you will be deportees
My father's own father, he waded that river
They took all the money he made in his life
My brothers and sisters come working that food tree
And they rode the truck `till they took down and died
Some of us are illegal, and some are not wanted
Our work contract`s out, and we have to move on
Six hundred miles to that Mexican border
They chase us like outlaws, like rustlers, like thieves
We died in your hills, we died in your deserts
We died in your valleys, and died on your plains
We died `neath your trees and we died in your bushes
Both sides of the river, we died just the same
The skyplane caught fire over Los Gatos Canyon
A fireball of lightnin` that shook all our hills
Who are all these friends all scattered like dry leaves?
The radio said, "They are just deportees"
Is this the best way we can grow our big orchards?
Is this the best way we can grow our good fruit?
To fall like dry leaves and rot on out topsoil
And be known by no names except "deportees"

I will be very busy over the next few weeks vacating my apartment and getting my visa for Korea, so I will not be online much, for anyone who cares. I have to be on the plane to Korea by the 30th of June
I just wanted to share a short story. When I was at the government services building applying to renew my passport, there was some slob in a VFW cap goose-stepping about the corner with a sign that said, "If you cant speak English, go home, illegal immigrants!" People were driving by and honking and giving him the thumbs up, and there was another guy even photographing him. This pissed me off severely. Normally, I avoid confrontation at all cost, even non-violent confrontation. I usually feel it is just best to leave people to their own stupidity and let the world kick their asses and hope they can figure it all out someday. However, I had to go into the bank for a money order and there was this nice Filipino fellow who always seems to be working, I suppose because they need a Spanish-speaking teller, which is hard to find around here. Anyway, I thought about him leaving work and having to walk by the picketing bigot on the corner. Please dont tell me that man was only protesting illegals and welcomed legal immigrants! I am not so nave, and I knew the bank teller was not either.
So, I walked straight up to the racist prick, showed him my paperwork, and said exactly this, Excuse me, sir. Do you see these? These are receipts for my visa application. I am leaving this country. I just wanted to let you know that the only people you are driving out of this country with your racist hate speech are Americans! He just kinda stared at me without saying anything, and I turned and walked away. Then, he said, Well, God bless you, kinda half-heartedly. I just kept walking and didnt even turn my head.
After I was finished my business, he was no longer outside of the building. I was happy to know that the guy in the bank would not be harassed by that racist SOB.
