So I'm ridding myself of my DSL line, going to replace it with a cable modem, which is way faster and cheaper.
Unfortunately for me, I have to pay $50 to disconnect it. I protested, they sent me a copy of the form I submitted to order where it says in big letters "$50 disconnect fee", so I'm kind of stuck.
My recommendation for anyone looking into broadband: get a cable modem. DSL is way slower and more expensive.
