Do you ever just wake up after a period of time and realize you have been living a lie, that the things and people in your life are a farce. Everything I hear on the radio, see on the TV and experience around me does not coincide with what I know. My boss told me a few things this week that were a little less...

Southern California fucking rules
killer food, killer weather, killer skate parks, beach on the horizon
WOW
too bad I would have to live in a trailer-park to afford it here cause this place fits my style in a most terminal way

Heya, how ya been?
Skated the Round Rock bowl this A.M. and then hit Mable Davis this afternoon. Perfect overcast conditions so it was not blazing hot. Carve and nose-grab grinds were in effect, got a few laybacks and Hackett slashes in the mix with a bert-revert or two to earn the beer tickets.
I turned 41 this weekend, skated all day at Mable Davis and I'm going again today.

Happy birhtday. You're still a youngster.
The last line of your entry reminded me of this:
Crimson flames tied through my ears
Rolling high and mighty traps
Pounced with fire on flaming roads
Using ideas as my maps
"We'll meet on edges, soon," said I
Proud 'neath heated brow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.
Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth
"Rip down all hate," I screamed
Lies that Life is black and white
Spoke from my skull. I dreamed
Romantic facts of musketeers
Foundationed deep, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.
Girls' faces formed the forward path
From phony jealousy
To memorizing politics
Of ancient history
Flung down by corpse evangelists
Unthought of, though, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.
A self-ordained professor's tongue
Too serious to fool
Spouted out that Liberty
Is just equality in school
"Equality," I spoke the word
As if a wedding vow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.
In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not that I'd become my enemy
In the instant that I preach
My pathway led by confusion boats
Mutiny from stern to bow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.
Yes, my guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

Also, a song I sing and play at birthday parties:
May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
And may you stay forever young.
May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the Truth
And see the Light surrounding you.
May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay forever young.
May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
And may you stay forever young.

I am going to the Seattle area for a week starting today. I will visit my parents and skate the amazing skateparks as well and end up at Bumbershoot on the weekend. It will be nice to experience less than 100 degree days for the week. YA!

I'm in the middle of a crazy-ass concert on a cowpasture and the Sheriff's Department just left and half the crowd of 80 or 100 (and a couple bandmates) are on mushrooms so it should be a long long crazy night here in Ocala and i'm constantly updating my journal entry from this laptop with stuff that's happening and I gotta start playing again. Bye!

no sweat. You skate pools & parks at 40? You're my hero, I push around town from time to time, but that's about it. Being from Austin, you ever go see Brown Whornet?
I am in Charlotte, NC for the SCAA (coffee) trade show. The first highway I saw was Billy Graham express or something like that, deep south?! I am going to get caffeinated and learn all things coffee!

Glad you're doing well - skateboarding's great - I made a board when i was a kid and bought a couple but never really got hooked on it - it was always just a part of the rush I was always seeking (hanggliding, skydiving, bungee jumping, cliffscaling, treewhomping, etc). I think I may have to invest in one again after nearly 2 decades without. Plus, I too havae gotten a bit . . . portly, shall we say? No, just fat.
Any tips on board purchasing?

Yeah - I have some fun -best of all, some folks Gainesville who were planning a Tribute album for Buck Owens BEFORE his passing got my stage name from some girls who got onstage and danced around me at the show(they thought the girls were part of the act but I didn't know them) and from the stage name they tracked me down and approached me to contribute a song. I'm probably gonna do "Pfft! You Were Gone" sort of Reggae style with a punk flavour perhaps. I'm shoppingfor an appropriate cowboy hat to fit in with the Carribbean cowboy look I need for the photo shoot next month. There's talk of some bigger names than mine expressing interest in the album - I think they want all Florida artists. Not that I'm hinting at Petty being involved or anything.
Now I'm working on some NikkiSudden songs for this weekend's gig.

You should definitely start a punk band. Especially in Austin. Some great music comes from there but I'm not familiar with Austin punk.
Though I was seeing a lot of Dead shows atthetime my first band was a hardcore band and we did multiband gigs with some major league punk bands forpractically nomoney. But it was great fun. ILove playing punk songs to rednecks here.

Skate Away is a great song. I've been pondering whether I should (and/or can) arrange it as an acoustic segue with Jethro Tull's Skating Away on The Thin Ice Of A New Day. A sort of dichotomy of songs. ONly problem is I don't have a copy of Long Legs (that's the right album, right?) and don't know all the words. Plus, I'm not sure how well it would do acoustified. I've done it with so many others, though, I probably could.
Or perhaps I could do Skating Away . . . solo acoustic and segue it into Skate Away with a band joining in.
I love the words to the Tull song, though:
Meanwhile back in the year One,
when you belonged to no-one,
you didn't stand a chance son,
if your pants were undone.
`Cause you were bred for humanity
and sold to society
one day you'll wake up
in the Present Day
a million generations removed from expectations of being who you really want to be.
Skating away, skating away,
skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.
So as you push off from the shore,
won't you turn your head once more
and make your peace with everyone?
For those who choose to stay,
will live just one more day
to do the things they should have done.
And as you cross the wilderness,
spinning in your emptiness:
you feel you have to pray.
Looking for a sign that the Universal Mind has written you into the Passion Play.
Skating away, skating away,
skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.
And as you cross the circle line,
the ice-wall creaks behind
you're a rabbit on the run.
And the silver splinters fly
in the corner of your eye
shining in the setting sun.
Well, do you ever get the feeling that the story's too damn real and in the present tense?
Or that everybody's on the stage, and it seems like you're the only person
sitting in the audience?
Skating away, skating away,
skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.
Skating away, skating away , skating away
