𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝟮: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹

In the summer of 2002, Randi travelled to Kanto. His primary goal of his Kanto tour was to challenge the Gym Leaders.

One day, Randi was running down the streets of Saffron City, late for a train to Celadon. Failing to see where he was going, he collided hard with a girl around the side of a building. They both fell to the ground. After the initial shock wore off, Randi and the girl made eye contact. Randi laughed as the girl looked intrigued as Mew showed up. Randi introduced Mew and briefly chatted about his love for Psychic Pokémon. The girl stood up, a bit disheveled from the collision, introducing herself as Sabrina, the Saffron City Gym Leader and specialist in Psychic Pokémon. A bit surprised, as Randi was looking to challenge her eventually but not knowing what she looked like, he abandoned his train and invited Sabrina for coffee. Sabrina accepted the invitation, slightly shocked that someone wasn't afraid of her, seizing the social opportunity.

The two bonded almost instantaneously. Randi was happy to find someone so knowledgeable about his favorite Pokémon, Sabrina was thrilled that not only did she encounter someone who wasn't intimidated by her, but who shared her passion for Psychic Pokémon and also wasn't an Esper. Until now, every person Sabrina knew as Psychic Pokémon Trainers were Espers, and given her very strong psychic abilities, communication with other Espers created a psychic resonance that gave her terrible headaches. She had been forced into a life with few, if any friends.

After about a week, Randi and Sabrina became fairly good friends and challenged each other in the Gym with a wager. If Randi won, Sabrina would accompany him on his journey. If Randi lost, he would have to serve the Gym for the rest of the year. The battle was somewhat entertaining, though Sabrina keeps a secret to this day that she let Randi win.

Sabrina had her subordinates take control of the Gym as she left with Randi on the journey. The two became very close friends and months later, they were young lovers. The couple ended up back in Denali, building a popular following as a contentious duo in Denali League Double Battles with an emotionally appealing "star-crossed lovers" backstory in the media. Their ratings skyrocketed after Mew made its first public appearance during a press conference featuring the couple. They became known as the "Couple that Caught Mew."

Though it seems that the star couple is well on their way to the top, fame has a way of complicating things...
