I removed somebody from my "friends" list, because they have a "Bush/Cheney '04" avatar. Does this make me a bad person? Granted the person wasn't a friend yet, more just a friendly acquaintance, but is a politically revolting avatar enough of a reason for me to decide that he's not worth giving a chance? It's a perfectly legitimate reason as far as I'm concerned, but...

Re: Lain the Republican

I would say that being able to socialize with people with whom one disagrees is an important skill to have. If one shuns everyone with whom one disagrees, one winds up living in an ideological echo-chamber like GWB does.

That said: one certainly shouldn't have to socialize with everyone with whom one disagrees. If one socializes with a person a bit and then decides that he or she is a tool, then to hell with him or her.

For example: Chuck Hagel and John McCain are Republicans, and based upon what I have heard from them in the past (i.e., they seem reasonable and thoughtful men), I'd be willing to give their ideas a hearing even though I'd expect myself not to agree with them. Arlen Specter, Dennis Hastert, GWB, Tom DeLay, and so forth, have all proven themselves to be remarkably repugnant people with views I abhor, and I wouldn't give anything that any of them has to say a hearing.

So, with Lain, shun away. It's not like you're prejudiced with respect to him: your not pre-judging him; you're simply judging him because you know something of him and don't like what you know.

It's not like you're hurting in the friends department, and I doubt you will be because you gave Lain the boot.

Oooops! I meant Rick Santorum, not Arlen Specter. Sorry.

My life is beautiful right now. Most of it probably isn't stuff that would interest anybody to read about, and the rest of it isn't something I can express in words, but gosh...

I won't say "I couldn't ask for more," because I definitely could. But so what? I already have so much that the idea of wanting more just feels like a waste of...

I'm still not feeling 100% yet, but that's alright. My fever is gone and everything, so whatever. Thanks for your well-wishes, everyone.

I went to school today, despite feeling somewhat lousy, and it was totally worth it. One of my favorite kids said "I love you Miss Z-------" after over a week straight of saying "I hate you" to me every day without fail. I...

I am the epitome of domesticity right now. I spend every day taking care of toddlers, and I just learned how to knit. (I spent my entire weekend sick in bed, knitting. How dull.) Now all I have to do is learn to cook meatloaf. whatever ... If I don't get myself a strong drink and/or a hard fuck in the near future, I think I...

Some things never change. And some changes never quite feel right. Sometimes it's better not to revisit your past - seeing it up close tends to shatter the sunny memory. You can't help but notice all the cobwebs in the corners. You wonder just how much you've forced yourself to forget.

Going home is like being stranded on a desert island. (With food and water......
