In all honesty, I cannot say my father-in-law is "good for nothing". It seems that whenever we have him over to watch the Twins play on TV they win. The cost is gas for two round trips to his house (he doesn't drive), dinner and a case of beer. For the home games, it's way cheaper than going. As for the road games, read my...

Do you agree with the Slowey move? or do you let him stay out?

Went to the Twins - Mariners game tonight and saw a few interesting things. My first homerun review by the umpires. The second base ump got it wrong and the crowd knew it. They looked at it and got it right.
Documentary film maker Ken Burns threw out the first pitch.
Got to see Matt Capps get his first save as a Twin. He throws...

Kauffman?!?! You will be in my city then!!! lol I'd be ready for some girl on girl action too...

In a fit of boredom I stretched my nipples to 4 gauge today. I was at 6 for a year and a half, and had been thinking about it for a while. It went very smoothly, and virtually painless unlike previous stretches.

I did. I thought Laird was going to break it up. Garza got a few calls at the end of that game...that's all I will say.

In the live-ball era (since 1920) there have been 177 no-hitters and only 44 5-hit, 7-RBI games. So Mauer's feat is actually far more rare.

After 7 years of waiting, it finally happened yesterday. I was able to move my seats for the Wild below row 9. I spotted the seatsfrom the far end of the arena, and ran all the way over, only to find one of the reps trying to grab them for someone else. Fortunately I was able to pull rank with my lower priority number. The...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH.
This team is killing me. They are going to suck this year too. At least they got Cullen, who is from the town most of my family is from in Minnesota.

The main move that needs to be made is someone that can play with Koivu, since that him and Havlat can't play together. The problem is that person is expensive, and right now I'm not sure about the cap situation (I'd have to check the cap website for that...).
They need a top 6 guy to play on one of the two lines, and I don't know if: A. they have the space to do it and B. if they could even get someone.
It's not like a lot of FAs are moving this season, and there aren't a lot of trading assets. Maybe Harding? 4 Goalies right now, the one they drafted, the new German one and Harding signed a 1 year deal.
Not sure if thats because they want the two guys in the system, and Harding as a back up yet again or what.
Harding could start for a team in this league, but I doubt a guy who'd be an FA next year is good enough trade bait.

Lots of fanfare and hype...
Not having anything better to do, when I heard that the Twins were having an open house Saturday morning at Target Field, the wife and I got up early to check it out. It only cost $2 to get in. We got downtown at 9:30 and rode the light rail from the dome to Target Field. The U of M...

Tonight we went to roller derby. I think the main motivation was to people watch, so from that perspective it was fun and interesting. Lots of piercings and tattoos there.
When we bought the tickets we paid a couple bucks more to sit trackside, not fully understanding what that meant. We quickly found out that meant we had two...

Clumpy 3: The Return of the Boot
Back when I broke my foot the first time in September my wife gave me the nickname Clumpy.
Clearly casts and I don't get along. After two and a half weeks I developed sores on my foot, and it became necessary to switch to a boot, in order to change the dressing.
The boot is just a fancy...

Yep, six years old and that was only 2 years after my parents got divorced. Then my great grandmother died in the same year. Pretty rough, but I still consider myself blessed with what I have. I've got a supportive family and an amazing Mom, without her I would have likely been another bad statistic of kids who lose parents either through absence or death at a young age.
Minnesota sports is a lot of what we shared together, and that's why I go way overboard with anything to do with them. They were what my Dad and I did before he passed (I remember being at the playoff game against the Rams in 1988 and I was 4 then!), and they acted like a surrogate father growing up. I don't know if you've read the book "Fever Pitch", but the author Nick Hornsby talks about how sports acted as a father for him when his parents were divorced growing up, as there is nothing more "masculine" as sports.
Which is why I'm sport obsessed, and take them way too seriously, because they've always represented something more, my home Minnesota from which I was "foricibly" removed when my Mom moved to Detroit, and of course the represented my Dad.
I want to get a tattoo for him, and have wanted to for some time, I've got the idea, I just don't know if it would look as good as I want it to.

Minnesota heros and bums...
I've kind of been glued to olympic coverage all week. There are a lot of Minnesotans competing. After all the hype Lindsey Vonn made good winning gold in the women's downhill. The winning time was 1:44.19.
On the other hand I have wasted hours watching curling. The mens team is from Minnesota. They should win a gold medal for choking.

Well, all Minnesotans, it's typical! haha
I'm thinking the Canucks could be eliminated before they get another chance at us, and that may be for the best.
The US winning put our favorite team in the best chance to get to the gold medal game. Belarus/Swiss and then Czech/Finland.
Both of those are winnable games and that puts us in the Gold Medal game.
I don't think this team mirrors the 1980 team, the 1980 team is one of those that will never be done again. What it stood for transcends sports, and this current team, and really any other team in the future are likely not to do that.
It's the hockey version of Joe Louis vs. Max Schemeling, when there are more important things on the line than just the sport.

I haven't been around for a while. I was never really gone, just a little burnt out. A lot has happened since my last blog.
I broke my foot again. Same foot (left) different bone. I was just walking through the grocery store, and I heard a loud pop. Wearing a cast sucks. I have a new handicapped parking permit.

Awwwww!! That is crazy how your foot is broke again. Hope it heals well! Just admit tho... you broke your foot for the handicapped parking permit
lol JK
I was a bit luckier than you, someone had left my freezer open (prob one of the kids) and even though it was mostly empty, someone stuck towels in it to soak up the water, closed it and forgot about it. We had to throw it away. It was NASTY!!
LOL fanciest meal. I don't get the whole V-day thing. Why would you show someone you love them so extravagantly for one day when there are 365 days in the year and you have most likely been with that person for YEARS anyways? Its just a day. Even tho I love the Dove truffles that come out for V-day. Haha!!

At midnight tonight I will officially no longer be handicapped.
I broke my foot back in September, and my doctor got me a temporary handicapped parking permit. When I first got it it was a godsend, but the last month or so I've felt a little guilty using it, as my foot has improved greatly.
