*KNOCK KNOCK*
It's sweet irony. Open the fuck up. There's many uncomfortable moments waiting for you out here.
That was the theme of the evening last night.
It started off promising. It was the first time all us girls (me, West Side Laura & Brandy Mara) had planned to get together in over a month for what used to be our regular Thursday night drinking session at Rosie's. Tonight C-Funk was joining us because she's in town visiting from Boulder. I was really looking forward to it, but I made them promise me we'd split around 8:00 because Jeff's band was playing and I *SO* didn't want to be there for it. So C-Funk and I roll in at about 6:00, and West Side Laura and Brandy Mara already have a table- but not just any table. Not only are they sitting at the table that's actually ON the stage, but it's the one just off to the right, not 2 feet from where Jeff sits when they play there.
I told the girls we could sit there until something else opened up, and then we absolutely had to move, to which they agreed. Only one problem- no other tables opened up, and if they had, we'd quickly gotten so fucking wasted, we didn't notice if any did anyway.
Before we knew it, Martin was there setting up and warned, "You know, you girls REALLY should move."
Before I could tell him we were planning on leaving before they played anyway, West Side Laura chimed in, "Fuck that dude! Jess didn't do anything wrong, and if we're still sitting here when he gets here, he'll just have to act like a grown up and deal with it."
Eh, well. Nicely put. Thanks.
So everything's cool. We're drinking, laughing, having a great time. Jeff's there doing a stellar job pretending we don't exist- everything's working as best to be expected.....until.....
We order another round of shots, and the old Irish lady, Josie, who owns the place carts them over to us. Just as she sets the drinks on the table, she leans over, grabs Jeff by the shoulder and pulls him toward our table and exclaims in her mellifluous accent, "Isn't he handsome girls?"
It was like that scene in the movie when someone says something fucked up and suddenly all the noise in the room comes to such a halt, you can hear crickets chirping for a few seconds while everyone just looks at eachother trying to figure out who's gonna respond. Just then I leaned in and looked at Jeff, then looked at Josie and said, "Wrong table for that question, Josie." All the other girls start laughing. I actually kinda felt bad for Jeff. He had to feel at least twice as uncomfortable as I did. After all, I was shitfaced. Not much was getting to me.
After that we pretty much high-tailed it outta there. It was fun, but that was definitely our queue, so we took it, and cashed out our $150.00 bar tab
(we 4 girls don't fuck around). However, just as we were leaving, I heard someone calling my name. I turn around, and it's Holly- the girl Jeff was dating last November. For that moment, I actually felt really bad for the dude having to deal with both of us being there. But it only lasted about 45 seconds, at which point I noticed Sabrina walk in- the girl he started seeing 2 days after he broke up with me "to be by himself" and is currently dating now. Fucker.
So all in all it was good times, but that one particular incident, we could have all done without- but whatevs.
Tonight, it's First Fridays with an old friend and the SGAZ crew. Should be more good times.
Have a rad weekend everyone!
