I am alarmed to discover that I have reached some kind of new stage of adulthood. I followed a fellow student into a Crate & Barrel today, and the strangest thing happened - I wanted stuff. Suddenly, I desperately desired a set of dishes, and some nice pots and pans, and glasses, and place settings, and a curio cabinet. It was horrifying. I even went home and found their webpage, and was this close to making a wishlist so that y'all could buy me birthday presents. I'm seriously concerned.
What was worse, I spent the afternoon at a professor's house, at a party for new students. It was a nightmare. There were enough people that they could all form clusters of conversation around me, but not enough that I could hide in the bathroom and read a book without being noticed. I finally managed to overcome crippling shyness and speak to people around me, and ended up stranded on a couch with some 2nd year German student who seemed to think I was totally awesome, and kept touching my arm. Oddly enough, a lot of people kept touching my arm. I really don't like it when strangers touch me, I've noticed. It creeps me out.
So now, even after eating dinner and doing the reading for tommorrow's class, I still feel rather like a cat that's had its fur rubbed the wrong way - prickly and disgruntled. Perhaps a hot bath will help.
