Man, i love that picture. in fact,

my parents are so ridiculously in love, it's so cute. anyone who has doubts about whether true love exists in the world should hang out with them for a day. they're crazy about each other. even when they fight, it's adorable.
i miss having my better half around. relationships are too fucking complicated.
i have an awful haircut. the worst thing about it is that it's so bad that i feel obliged to try to make it better by styling it or pinning it back, etc, and i've never, EVER done that before. so i have no clue how to do it. i even bought a comb today, it was exciting. i haven't owned a brush since i was 12, and i don't feel quite ready to make the plunge, but a comb seemed safe. it's black, and says ACE on it, so at least it makes me feel tough. i also bought a few styling products. how can people blow so much money on this shit? i tried one that Plastic recommended today, and i learned the hard way that putting goop in your hair does not mean that it's styled. you actually have to style it yourself. i kinda figured i'd put the crap in and the rest would figure itself out.
can someone please come over every morning and make me look presentable? please????

no no, it was 80 cigs per day of pregnancy, and its not the same person doing it all. 80 cigs per day is a lot, dont try to be all machismo on me.

well, in regard to nicotine, people who smoke during pregnancy are much more likely to have a low-birth weight pregnancy, and something like 20% of all low-bw births are thought to be related to smoking. also, the baby is most likely addicted to nicotine when it is born, so it is going through withdrawal right away, making it excitable, jittery, etc. there is also an increased risk for developmental problems in the brain, retina, or GI tract. that stuff is less directly implicated, but smoking while pregnant is thought to contribute to a mal-adaptive stress response at a young age and a possible learning-impairment.
as for the kids in the study about cocaine, they were five time more likely to show sign of mental retardation than the normal population (of the country, not the study). so yeah, they were pretty fucked up mentally as a result of the mothers' drug use. fucking people. oh yeah, and the kids had a greater frequency of heart malfunctions during developments.
